First step in my bird it to make a simple bead. Here I am using boro because I have to stop and take a photo between each step and the boro survives the heating and cooling a lot better. It is just as easy to do with soft glass (moretti or the others).

Next, using heat control, I let one side of the bead droop the turn it over and let the other side droop the other way. So you have a bead kind of cockeyed on the mandrel.

On the high side, make a ball for his head.

This is a good time to put his beak, eyes and topknot on.

Next the tail. It can be done a number of different ways. I prefer to use the folding technique where you put one side of the tail on first then go back and put the other point on.

The wings are done using the folding technique.
